Tandem Teach generates classroom content for children. Speed, polish and price all sit on top of getting that one job right. Here is how we do it.
Why this matters
The duty of care doesn’t pause when an AI joins the room.
UK primary teachers carry a profound responsibility. The materials you put in front of children must be accurate, age-appropriate, safe and curriculum-aligned. Outsourcing that writing to a chatbot doesn’t outsource the duty of care. It sharpens it.
We built Tandem Teach knowing that. Generic AI tools are fast and cheap. They are also untrained for the classroom, unaware of the curriculum and unaccountable for what they produce. We don’t accept that trade off. Every output here runs through a multi-layer safety check, held to a bar that far exceeds what UK government DfE AI guidance currently asks for.
How we work
Eight checks, one process.
Every output runs through all eight before it reaches your screen. The first six are automatic and invisible. The last two are how we, and you, keep the system honest.

Validation
We start before AI gets involved. Year-group pickers, dropdowns and checkboxes are used wherever possible instead of free text. Obvious personal data is stripped before the request even leaves your browser.

Topic blocklist
A year-group-aware list of topics that are off-limits, on hold or restricted. Every block has a reason recorded against it, with pre-approved teacher messaging so nobody hits a confusing dead-end.

Pre-checks
A sense-check before any AI runs. Does this combination of inputs make sense for the tool, the year group, the curriculum? Asking for a poem about kindness passes. Asking for content that wouldn’t fit a primary classroom, even when the words look innocent, gets stopped here.

Screening
Three independent safety services from three different (GDPR-compliant) providers check every input. We don’t rely on any one provider; if one misses something, the others catch it. This includes protection against “jailbreaking” as well as advanced semantic validation algorithms.

Guardrails
Each tool runs against locked, conservative instructions written by us, never editable by users. Year-group calibration, UK Curriculum alignment and “if uncertain, err towards caution” are built in. No-one outside our team can change them.

Re-screening
Every output is checked again on the way out. The same safety services run a second pass and third pass; anything that drifted in generation is caught here, before it reaches your screen.

Oversight
You are part of the safety system. Every output ships with a teacher-review notice and a one-click report button. We can also disable a tool, a topic or the whole platform at a moment’s notice if we have to.

Auditing
Every request and every safety check is audit-logged for twelve months (stripped of personal identifiers). Patterns get auto-flagged. We monitor each safety service in real time, so when something is slow or degraded we know which outputs were affected and can act.

Reports go to a person, not a queue
Every output has a Report button. Each report is read by a real person within two working days, and feeds back into the safety system so the same problem doesn’t happen twice.
No automated decisions about pupils
Tandem Teach must never be used to make automated decisions about pupils that have legal or similarly significant effects. The teacher reviews. The teacher decides. Always.
Common questions about safety

Do you train AI models on our prompts or pupil data?
No. We do not use your prompts, uploaded content, generated outputs or saved resources to train third-party AI models. We do not sell that data either. Aggregated, anonymised usage information is used to improve the platform itself. Detail in our Privacy Policy.
Where is our data stored?
Within the UK and EEA, on our infrastructure providers (AWS). Payment data is handled by our payment provider (Stripe). Detail of all sub-processors is in the Data Processing Agreement.
What happens if a generation produces something inappropriate?
The pipeline is designed to catch it before you see it — but if anything slips through, every generation has a Report button. Reports come straight to our team and are reviewed within two working days. We log every step of every generation for a year, so we can fully audit what happened and why.
Can pupils use Tandem Teach directly?
No. Tandem Teach is for teachers, tutors and school administrators. It is not designed for, or accessible to, children. Generated content should always be reviewed by an adult before being used or shared with pupils.
Are you GDPR compliant?
Yes. Tandem Teach is operated by Classroom Secrets Ltd in the UK, and is fully compliant with the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018. Our Data Protection Officer is contactable at [email protected].
Do you use Google Analytics or other tracking cookies?
Only with your explicit consent. The default state is no analytics and no tracking cookies — opt-in via our cookie banner is required before any tracker loads. The only cookie set automatically is a same-session log-in cookie used purely to keep you signed in — it can’t be used for tracking and never leaves your browser beyond your own session. If you opt in, we load Google Analytics and Zoho PageSense for aggregate usage analytics only — never linked to individual content or pupil information. What if you have a security incident?
We follow standard UK GDPR breach-notification practice: affected users and the ICO are notified within 72 hours where the threshold is met. Our incident response process and on-call escalation are documented internally and are part of our risk-management programme.
